A Revolutionary Wine Tasting Experience

In collaboration with JCB by Jean-Charles Boisset, we created an innovative new way to experience the exclusive wines within the JCB Collection. Using state-of-the-art multitouch technology that digitally identifies the placement of a wine glass, visitors can explore their wine in new and immersive ways. The full wine-tasting experience takes a group of four visitors through a flight of five wines. As visitors taste each wine, their experience is enhanced with digital tasting notes, information about the creation of the wine they’re sampling, and much more. The interactive experience takes between 40 to 60 minutes to complete.

Implementation

The process for developing the user experience of the immersive wine tasting involved working closely with my fellow lead designer at Ideum as we created the step-by-step flow of exploration. We developed and tested the experience flow over a course of many weeks, refining and streamlining it in tandem with multiple user testing sessions.

Simultaneously, we designed an interface that communicates the lavish, luxurious aesthetic of JCB Wines. This process was a fantastic experience of working hand-in-hand with another designer to create a shared vision that exceeded what we could have individually achieved.

Overview

Visitors to the JCB Tasting Salon encounter an interactive wine flight that augments the traditional tasting experience. Touch technology “magically” detects the glass on the table and presents visitors with tasting notes, history, culture, and more at the touch of their fingers.
